Leader gurus... would it be possible to do a poll for Mr. Shimanski on this topic? I am very curious to hear what our forum readers think about this topic and I'm sure Mr. Shimanski would feel much better if he knew what your readers think about this project?

He makes a very good point when he suggests that there might be other more important things to fund at this time. I wonder if others have similar opinions?

Fisc, are you crazy??? How can we pass up the bazillion's of potential dollars that a paved trail will bring to Hutch? ;-)

Seriously, I think Ron (sorry I can't spell Shimanski) should look at the editorial and on line comments from September 10, 2009 and use his good common sense to see that this is something we cannot afford in this economic climate. This is a small part of the overall "pork" that will be proposed to spend our money on but by postponing this and other future "wishes" we may be able to stay on track with a balanced budget.

The trail is not going away. We own it. I am of the opinion that in 3-5 years the economy will be back on track and money will be available for the bike riders and rollerbladers who want this thing done. For now we have to get through the rough times and keep the really important issues in line.

Hold the phone, stop the presses!!! Are we are talking about spending within our means? What gives? Am I still in Minnesota? Ok, I'm taking a deep breath and thanking God that we still have a light at the end of the long and challenging tunnel...

Seriously, thank you VERY MUCH Mr. Shimanski for evaluating the trail (and our other fiscal challenges) from a logical and fiscally responsible position. I wish more of your colleagues would follow your example and think/spend responsibly. I hope they are listening to you.

I appreciate the way you have presented your thoughts. I too would like to see some serious assessment in the form of an ROI analysis and prioritization of the Luce Line project before any money is spent on it. As you have inferred, there are many other more important things that (could) take precedence over the trail. As I have said several times in my fiscal tirades, if it truly makes financial sense (I don't think it does), then some private entity will realize this and get it done without governmental assistance.

Again, thank you Mr. Shimanski. Keep up the great work! If you continue to write nice letters and think logically like this you will get my vote FOREVER!!!!!! Kudos to you.
